Mark Shorr
CEO, Proforce Pest Control
Mark Shorr is not the typical pest control founder, and that’s the point.
He came up through investment management. Earned his MBA at The Wharton School. Built a consumer products company, sold it, then ran a consulting and advisory firm before landing in home services around 2020. Most CEOs in this industry grew up in a truck. Mark grew up in a spreadsheet. The combination is what makes Proforce run the way it does.
In May 2026, Pest Control Technology magazine named Proforce to its annual Top 100 list at #56, with a cover story tracing the last three years of the company’s growth. Proforce has grown 559% over three years and crossed $23 million in revenue, with thirteen locations across Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. In 2025, Inc. magazine named Proforce to the Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest-growing private companies at #744. None of that was an accident.
The finisher
Ask people who work with Mark and the same word comes up: he finishes things. The deal he started, the branch he opened, the problem he flagged in a Monday meeting. It gets done.
That habit shows up in how the company is structured. Mark calls it the “three-legged stool.” Sales. Operations. Customer success. Each leg holds the same weight. If one wobbles, the whole thing tips. Most growing companies say something like that and then forget it the moment a revenue target slips. Proforce doesn’t. The stool is the actual operating model, not a slide in a deck.
A finance guy in a service business
What Mark saw in pest control that other people missed: the industry was full of great operators running businesses without great financial discipline, and full of great financial operators running businesses without great service. Almost nobody was doing both.
After helping divest eight Southeast branches from Hawx Pest Control in 2024, Mark secured backing from long-horizon investors, the kind that don’t squeeze a portfolio company for quarterly margin. That structural choice is one most people on the customer side never see, but it shapes everything downstream. It’s the reason a technician at a Proforce branch can fix a small issue on the spot instead of escalating it. The company isn’t being run to a margin spreadsheet that week. It’s being built to last twenty years.
How that shows up for customers
Mark hands every branch the same principle: if something is easy to fix, just fix it. Don’t escalate. Don’t make the customer call back. Just handle it. The technicians get the authority to do that. The office staff don’t read from scripts. The service plans are designed so that, ideally, you stop thinking about pests altogether.
Successful pest control is invisible pest control. That’s the line, and it’s the goal.
On the speaking circuit
In January 2026, D2DCon, the largest annual conference for door-to-door and home service professionals, named Mark a featured speaker at its ninth annual event in Salt Lake City. His session focused on the operational side of building a high-performance field sales organization: leadership disciplines, team structure, and repeatable execution habits.
He shows up at industry events with the same message he gives his branch leaders. Know your numbers. Deliver real customer service. Build culture on purpose, not by accident. Not flashy. Not new. But the companies that actually run on it are rare.
